Garter Snake

    The common garter snake has a pattern of yellow stripes on a black or
brown background. Garter snakes mate after emerging from hibernation in
March or April. Females give birth to 12-40 young anytime from July through
October.

   Garter snakes live in different areas including pond and stream edges,
wetlands, forests, fields, rocky hillsides and residential areas.

   Garter snakes eat a variety of foods such as amphibians, birds and
mammals.

   Some of the predaters of garter snakes are king snakes, some birds,
cats, racoons, badgers,and humans.
