Information about the church
The Bears Grass area is full of beautiful country scenery. Located on county V and JJ is a little church best known as Bears Grass Church. Now known as St. Peter's Ev Lutheran Church were Sunday service is still being worshiped. In 1996 we celebrated our 125th anniversary with a good old fashion dinner, singing and horse wagon rides. And we had people talking about the past.

Theodore Bloch donated the land for the church. This location is diagonally across the road from the old church site and the old site of the schoolhouse. The church was built by William Niebuhr a contractor in Fall Creek and Fred Henke a carpenter.

The first marriage solemnized in the new church by the Rev. Otto Braem united Henry Erdman and Otelia Bloch.

My great grandfather was the first generation of my family to get baptized at St Peter's. (Bears Grass) I am the 4th generation to be baptized there. Many changes have been made since my great great grandparents first came to the little church. They raised the church and put a basement under it and replaced the organ and furnace.
